Sparrow Projects

Windlass switches are dead; new ones need to be procured & installed. The windlass may need service, I have never really tested it. I powered it up and verified it spins both directions, but nothing more.

Barient 2-speed self tailing winches. They work and I've had them apart to inspect, they look to be in good shape but they need servicing.

I patially disassembled the roller furler to re-attach and adjust the forestay. But never re-assembled. I have all the parts.

Whoever had the boat before me took the hardware off the butterfly hatch and it disappeared. Some hardware needs to be acquired and installed. Teak is in great shape still, would look real nice refinished.

Propane locker needs to be cleaned up, re-gasketed, and a new horizontal tank acquired & installed along with a new hose and solenoid. Currently I have the propane bottle on deck with a temp hose run. Locker is vented overboard.

I built new battery boxes, but this bank needs fused/connected and secured.

Starboard water tank needs cleaned out and re-plumbed.

Port water tank needs lids re-installed. You can see some of the brackets which allow the settee to be completely removed, giving un-interrupted access to the top of the tank. Some paint has flaked off, but most of the paint is still adhered. So painting may be something you want to do.

Here are a few more shots of the water tank. The holes are approx 11" in diameter, tape measure in pics.

Access plate for head needs completion:

I cut this access into the shower pan to replace the water lines, the originals appeared to have been built into the boat with no way to get at them. This is probly the easiest job on the list. A sturdy shower grate sits atop the shower pan, so you can walk here even with this open.

The bilge pump is plumbed into the cockpit drain. I don't like this, cockpit drains should go straight with no impediments. I replaced the port one; the starboard one should be re-plumbed. I have a new bilge pump that is much bigger that should be installed before cruising. Currently there is no auto bilge pump, you would need to acquire and install if you want one.

Other Stuff Before Cruising

The halyards look ok. Much of the rest of the running rigging does not. The travelers should be inspected/serviced along with the winches. The standing rigging has been so overbuilt that I wouldn't worry about replacing unless I was going around Cape Horn or something. The furling headsail is excellent condition, staysail good, main OK. I would replace the main within the next few seasons, but currently no repairs or issues I can see. Just old and stained. There are some deck vents which need service. I have 3 new dorades and I refinished one dorade box. The other two are fine, just need paint. They are fiberglass. There is no wind instrumentation or radar currently, if you want that you'd need to procure/install. The compass should be trued, but is in decent shape. The steering cables should be replaced before going out into heavy conditions. I have a nice emergency tiĺler, but the bracket to connect it to the rudder post has disappeared. A new one should be fabricated before cruising.

She has some growth on the bottom. I have a gallon of bottom paint, probly needs 2 for the job. There is a grid in the marina where this can be done (check w/harbor of course, but they said sure when I asked about it).

Tiller

The emergency tiller connects to a missing fitting the drops onto the rudderpost like a socket and hinges to the tiller with a cross bolt. The rudder post male end is 1.25" square and the squared end is 2" long. The distance from the end of the rudder post to the deck, following the angle of the rudderpost, is about 7.5" long. The tiller end is a C channel 2 1/16" across. The diameter of the bolt hole in this C channel is 0.5".
